* Early check-in (before 2:00 PM) and breakfast are available at extra cost.
City tour of Irkutsk.
Irkutsk is one of the most beautiful cities in Siberia, a place where the old meets the new, history meets modernity, and Europe meets Asia. It serves as the “gateway” to the East and to the world’s purest and deepest lake — Lake Baikal.
During the city tour, you will visit the historical center with its famous wooden houses decorated with intricate carvings which tell tales of centuries past.
Be astonished by the greatness of the Savior Church, feel the weight of history at the Eternal Flame, and stand in awe before the imposing Moscow Gates.
Explore the elegant Znamensky Convent and admire the monument to Admiral Kolchak.
As you wander along Karl Marx Street and the charming Angara River embankment, you’ll discover the city’s soul in its historic mansions and the iconic monument to Alexander III. The evening unfolds like a fairytale as you explore the vibrant “Irkutsk Sloboda” district, where every corner reveals a new story waiting to be discovered.
Lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, visit the Decembrists’ Museum, a unique 19th-century estate that tells the story of the exiled Russian nobles after the 1825 uprising in St. Petersburg and their new life in Siberia.
After the tour — hotel check-in
Overnight in Irkutsk.
Day 2
Ethnographic Wonders of Listvyanka - a village where tradition meets modernity
Breakfast at the hotel.
Excursion to Listvyanka village — the nearest place to Baikal Lake, the way takes at about 1,5h driving from Irkutsk. It’s one of the most popular and charming destinations on the shores of Lake Baikal. The road follows the Angara River, the only river flowing out of Baikal, offering beautiful views along the way.
On the way, visit the Taltsy Museum of Wooden Architecture, one of the best open-air museums in Russia.
Taltsy is an ethnographic complex — a recreated Siberian village preserving the culture and traditions of the peoples of Eastern Siberia. On its 70-hectare territory, there are over 80 historical, architectural, and cultural monuments. Explore authentic Evenk camps, ancient Buryat yurts, and traditional Siberian peasant and Cossack estates spread across 70 hectares of breathtaking landscape.
The museum also features birch bark and pottery workshops and a stable.
Immerse yourself in the region’s folklore as you witness traditional crafts being practiced.
In Listvyanka, delve into the mysteries of the Baikal Museum of Flora and Fauna. Here you discover the unique ecosystem of the lake, often referred to as a natural laboratory. You can not only learn about endemic species but see with your eyes Baikal fishes, including the famous Baikal seal (nerpa), and gain a deeper understanding of why Baikal is considered one of the most extraordinary lakes in the world.
Next stop — the local fish and souvenir market. A vibrant and colorful place where you can see and smell freshly smoked omul and other types of Baikal fish, as well as browse handmade souvenirs and local crafts — perfect for bringing a piece of Baikal home with you.
Lunch will be served at a restaurant overlooking the lake, where you can enjoy not only delicious local cuisine but also stunning panoramic views of Baikal.
After lunch, you will take the chairlift to the Chersky Stone viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of Lake Baikal and the source of the Angara River.
Return back to Irkutsk and Overnight in the hotel.
Day 3
Discover the Sacred Heart – Olkhon Island
Breakfast at the hotel.
After breakfast, you'll depart for Olkhon Island. The journey, including the ferry crossing, takes about 5 to 6 hours.
Olkhon Island — where shamans still tie ribbons to sacred poles before a ritual. You’ll stand on Cape Khoboy, feeling the wind from the widest point of the lake. On a clear day, the opposite shore is invisible. This is not a postcard. This is a power spot. No wonder Genghis Khan's shamans performed rites here.
It is the geographical, historical, and spiritual center of the lake — the very place where the first Russian explorers began their discovery of Baikal.
The island is rich with archaeological sites, myths, and legends. Almost every spot there has an ancient story behind it. The diversity of its natural landscapes, the unique microclimate, and the blend of shamanic and Buddhist cultures make Olkhon a magnet for travelers from around the world. Along the way, you'll stop at the Golden Horde Ethnopark, where you'll learn about the ancient culture of the indigenous Buryat people.
You'll take part in a master class on making "buuz" — traditional Buryat steamed dumplings usually prepared for celebrations and honored guests.
Guided by the chef, you'll make your own, and then enjoy them for lunch.
You'll cross the Olkhon Gates strait by ferry, then continue to the village of Khuzhir (Olkhon's main settlement) in UAZ off-road vehicles.
After checking in at the hotel, you'll take an evening walk to Shaman Rock — one of the most iconic and sacred landmarks of Lake Baikal. This dramatic rock formation rising from the water has long been a place of worship and is surrounded by countless legends. Local beliefs hold that powerful spirits inhabit this place, and it remains an important site for rituals and offerings.
Dinner and overnight stay on Olkhon Island.
Day 4
A Day of Epic Adventure: Jeep Safari to Cape Khoboy
Breakfast at the hotel.
You'll set off on a Jeep tour to Cape Khoboy.
Today is shaping up to be one of the most spectacular days of your trip. After breakfast, you'll embark on an adventurous jeep tour across Olkhon Island in traditional UAZ vehicles — the only real way to explore its remote and wild northern landscapes.
The UAZ tour takes you to the island's northernmost point, passing through some of Olkhon's most stunning scenery: the Sandy Valley (Padi Peschanaya) with its scenic dunes, and the White Cape (Sagan-Khushun), made of light marble and covered in red lichen.
The highlight of the day is Cape Khoboy — the northernmost tip of Olkhon Island. Its name means "fang," and the dramatic rock formation strikingly resembles a sharp tooth jutting out into the waters of Lake Baikal. Standing here, you'll truly feel the scale and power of the lake: this is its widest part, where the horizon seems to stretch on forever. On a clear day, you might even catch a distant glimpse of the Holy Nose Peninsula on the opposite shore.
You'll also visit Uzury Valley — the only place in the north of the island where the road descends all the way down to the water.
A picnic lunch is included during the tour.
You'll return to Khuzhir.
Dinner and overnight stay on Olkhon Island.
funny fact +
Local legends say that Cape Khoboy is a place of strong energy and ancient spirits, and many visitors feel a special connection to nature here.
Day 5
Crossing the Heart of Baikal
Breakfast at the hotel.
You'll transfer to the pier and cross Lake Baikal by boat to the eastern shore.
Most tourists never see the eastern shore. You will.
2 hours across the deepest lake on the planet. Water so clear that at 40 meters you see the bottom. Hold your phone overboard. This is not a ferry; it’s a private water expedition to the untamed side of Baikal.
Along the way, you'll watch the rocky shores of Olkhon, hidden bays, and cliffs pass by — landscapes that remain inaccessible from land.
Lunch is provided at the village of Turka
You'll arrive in the village of Turka, located within a special economic zone focused on sustainable tourism. This area represents a newer and less explored side of Baikal, offering a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere than the western shore.
From there, you'll transfer to your hotel and have time to simply enjoy the lakeside environment.
Dinner and overnight stay.
funny fact +
Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world, reaching over 1,600 meters, and holds roughly 20% of the planet's fresh surface water. It is also one of the oldest lakes on Earth, having formed around 25 million years ago, and it continues to change due to ongoing tectonic activity.
Day 6
The Sacred Valley
Breakfast at the hotel.
You will have full-day excursion to the Barguzin Valley — one of the most remarkable regions surrounding Lake Baikal.
The valley lies within the Baikal rift system, a unique geological zone where the Earth's crust is slowly pulling apart. This makes the area not only visually stunning but also scientifically important.
The landscape here is wonderfully diverse: wide open plains, mountain ranges, winding rivers, and thermal areas all come together to create a unique microclimate that has supported human life here for centuries.
During the excursion, you'll visit key natural and cultural locations, learn about local beliefs, and gain a deeper understanding of how people have lived in harmony with nature in this region for generations.
Picnic lunch will be served in nature
Return to the hotel, followed by dinner and overnight stay.
funny fact +
The Barguzin Valley is also known for its deep spiritual significance. It has long been considered a sacred territory by the indigenous peoples, a place where shamanism and Buddhism exist side by side. Many sites in the valley are regarded as places of power, and they are still used today for rituals and offerings.
Day 7
Free day to relax and enjoy the natural environment of Lake Baikal
This is an opportunity to slow down and experience the lake at your own pace — whether walking along the shore, enjoying the fresh air, or simply observing the changing colors of the water and sky.
Lake Baikal is known for its exceptional water clarity, which is the result of natural filtration processes involving endemic microorganisms. In some areas, visibility can reach up to 40 meters.
The surrounding ecosystem is home to many unique species, including the Baikal seal, the only freshwater seal in the world.
* Optional activities (extra charge):
cycling, ATV rides,
boat trips,
fishing,
visiting traditional Siberian sauna (banya).
Dinner and overnight.
Day 8
Ulan-Ude, Ivolginsky Datsan and the Old Believers’ Heritage
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure for Ulan-Ude (2-2,5h driving).
Visit the Ivolginsky Datsan — the main center of Buddhism in Russia and an important spiritual and educational complex. It serves as the residence of the Pandito Khambo Lama, the head of Buddhists in Russia.
The Datsan is not only a religious site but also a living monastery where monks study philosophy, medicine, and traditional Buddhist practices. It is also known for preserving the body of Lama Itigilov, which remains in an unusual state and is regarded as a significant spiritual phenomenon.
Continue to Tarbagatai village, home of the Old Believers (Semeiskie).
This community originated in the 17th century after a split in the Russian Orthodox Church.
Due to persecution, they were relocated to Siberia, where they preserved their traditional way of life, including language, customs, clothing, and religious practices.
During the visit, you will explore traditional houses, learn about their history, and experience their culture through a folklore performance featuring authentic songs and rituals.
Lunch with traditional homemade cuisine, reflecting centuries-old recipes.
Arrival in Ulan-Ude — the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, a region where Russian and Mongolian cultural influences intersect. The city is known for its multicultural identity and for the world’s largest monument of Vladimir Lenin.
Dinner. Check-in and overnight in Ulan-Ude.
